Dispelling Fears: Painting Simply and Safely with Oil

Instructor:  JJ Jiang

Workshop Fee: $269

We all love the depth and richness of color that could be had with oil painting, along with its incredible versatility. However, we may also be overwhelmed and perplexed by the endless array of materials as well as approaches available whilst wondering if it’s even safe to use.  The seeming complexity coupled with the safety of painting in oil were two of JJ’s paramount concerns when he was ready to take the plunge into this medium years ago.

In this workshop JJ will share with participants his straight forward approach to the medium with the goal of developing a beautiful still life painting all the while enjoying the process.  His simple approach is developed from years of experimentation, research and practice. He will help the artists understand what materials are needed and safe ways to use them.

This workshop is tailored to beginner to intermediate artists or those new to the medium.

Through step-by-step live demo, JJ will bring a still life painting to completion.  After each segment, he will guide participants in their individual work. Participants will have approximately 4 hours to finish their paintings.  JJ will provide photos to be used for reference.  Focus will be given to the fundamentals, such as drawing, value, color and color temperatures, and artistic (painterly) approach. Throughout the workshop, JJ will share his personal insight and wisdom as it relates to oil painting.

Paint simply, simply paint.
